Destinations

Join us on a journey to the Balkans. One of the three largest European peninsulas, the Balkans is washed by the Adriatic Sea in the west, the Ionian Sea in the southwest, and the Black Sea in the east. The word Balkan is Turkish and means “mountain”, and the peninsula is certainly dominated by mountains, especially in the west. The Balkan Mountains lie east-west from Serbia across Bulgaria, the Rhodope Mountains stretch along the Greek-Bulgarian border and the Dinaric Alps extend down the Adriatic coast to Albania. This is where nature lovers enjoy our hikes.

Explore the natural beauty of the Balkans

Take a trip with us to villages rarely visited by tourists and the peaks of the Balkan mountains. Enjoy white water rafting on the fast rivers, swimming in the blue seas and lakes and, for those of you who are braver, in waterfalls and mountain lakes. Come skiing, dog sledging, snow shoeing and horse riding, and learn how to cook Balkan food. Led by certified local mountain guides, staying with local hosts who make the most delicious food, Hiking the Balkans is your gateway to an authentic Balkan experience.

Why travel with us?

We are from the Balkans and we have grown up in the places we are taking you to. We know the local markets, the best wineries, restaurants and festivals, we know the mountain terrain, the caves and the secret beaches where few tourists go. We travel in small groups of up to 18 people and we work with local suppliers who genuinely benefit from your visits. We are committed to having a direct long term relationship with everyone who is interested in exploring the Balkans and offer advice for your travels in the region that goes beyond the trips we organise.
